When it comes to marketing myself and my services on-line, as a commercial real estate professional that specializes in tenant representation my ideal target audience is the C-Suite level executive. One of the challenges of social business marketing is that C-Suite level executives don’t have extra time to hang out on Twitter or a LinkedIn group during the business day. This is why a blog is so important in my opinion. Search is so important, while the C-Suite might not tweet, research indicates they search online extensively. In fact, 79% of C-level executives conduct 3 searches per day.
Facebook is the Default Social Network
However, there is a social network where the C-Suite executive resides and it isn’t where you think. Where are they? LinkedIn you say. No, I disagree, LinkedIn is full of marketers, salespeople and recruiters, at least the active participants. The place where the C-level executive resides is on Facebook. No they are not doing business there, but that is where they are connected to their kids, family, friends and old college buddies. How do I know this.? Well, I am connected to several of my clients through my personal facebook account and business page. I can see who they are connected with and who they are interacting with. In fact it is not uncommon for them to interact with me on Facebook. The day the CEO sent me a private email message on Facebook and said to call him to schedule lunch the light bulb flickered on. C-Suite executives are busy people, but they are not too busy for their family and friends and you can bet out of Facebooks 845 million users, half who are active daily there are a few C-Suite executives. The forty / fifty-something CEO and CFO is connected to his kids there.

I post every new story from my blog, The Tenant Advisor to all four of my profiles on the major social networks, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. Below are some metrics from the month of January 2012. While Twitter clearly provides the most traffic among the big 4 social networks it is the Facebook user that is the most engaged.

Great post my friend! – Sharing it now
I hear what you are saying, but I have always tried to keep the business and personal stuff separate. On the other hand, what works for one, does not work for all. I think there is so much opportunity for everyone and since each one of us represents our own social media fingerprint, due to our geography, property type, affiliations, relationships, etc. there is no right or wrong. The main issue is to be found. Period. If it is via Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or our site (theBrokerLIst) you have to use ALL of the tools in the drawer.
I have a business facebook page and a personal page. I post very little business to my personal page and it is private. Facebook pages are public just like a website. It is very easy to separate business from personal.
